Aureliano Cattaneo, born in Italy in 1974, studied piano with Vincenzo Balzani and composition with Carlo Alessandro Landini, Pippo Molino and Sonia Bo at the Conservatories of music of Piacenza and Milan. He attended master classes of composition with Gerard Grisey and Mauricio Sotelo.
Winner of prizes of composition he was selected for the 14th International Composition Seminar of Boswil (Switzerland) in 2001 and he was finalist of the "Gaudeamus music week" (Amsterdam) in 2004.
In 2003 he won the "Comité de Lecture de l'IRCAM/Ensemble InterContemporain" and in 2005 he was selected as "Stipendiat" by the Akademie der Künste of Berlin.
His works have been performed in Italy and abroad (Donaueschinger Musiktage, Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, Basel - Europäischer Musikmonat, Santander - Festival Internacional, Wien - Konzerthaus, Paris - Centre Pompidou, Bilbao - Museo Guggenheim, Berlin - Konzerthaus, Amsterdam - Gaudeamus, Munich - Gasteig, Strasbourg - Festival Musica, Madrid, London, Barcelona, Rome, Milan, Turin, Stuttgart, Saarbrücken, Dublin, Helsinki, Boston, Mexico City) by ensembles as Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble 2e2m, Nieuw Ensemble, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Ensemble TrioLog, Alter Ego, KNM Berlin, Trio Arbos coducted by Emilio Pomarico, Susanna Mälkki, Beat Furrer, Jean Deroyer, Lucas Vis, Johannes Kalitzke, Pierre Roullier.
His first orchestral piece, Violinkonzert, was premiered at the Konzerthaus Berlin by Viviane Hagner, violin and the Konzerthaus Orchester conducted by Lothar Zagrosek in June 2008.
His chamber opera "la philosophie dans le labyrinthe", wrote joint with the poet Edoardo Sanguineti, was premiered in 2006 at the "10. Münchener Biennale".
He received commissions from Klangforum Wien, Ensemble InterContemporain, Münchener Biennale, Berliner Konzerthaus, Saarländischer Rundfunk, Südwest Rundfunk (SWR), Akademie der Künste Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, CDMC of Madrid, Festival Musica Strasbourg, MärzMusik Berlin, Musik im Wattens, Alois Lageder, Festival Suena of Toledo, Sligo New Music Festival and Rte Lyric fm, Festival Klangspuren Plus of Munich, Region of Andalucia, Province of Lodi, French Ministry of Culture.
His works are published by "Editions Musicales Européennes" EME of Paris.
He lives and works in Madrid.
