Welcome to Jesus Ramos-Martin's website

Txus

I was born in 1974 in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Barcelona, Spain. I have been living in the UK for a couple of years, as I did in Rome, Italy. Then I moved to Vienna, Austria for 1 year. My main research interests are economic development, energy, ecological economics and societal metabolism. Apart from that, I am a rugby player and fan although I don't play anymore. I also like football. When I am not with my family I prefer the company of a book and some music. My soul belongs to the mountains, although I now live by the sea, and I do not complain.

I hold a PhD in Environmental Sciences (Ecological Economics), a Master in Environmental Management and a Degree in Development Economics by Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona. I completed a Master in Environmental Politics and a Master in Ecological Economics at Keele University, United Kingdom, where I was researching on complex systems, self-organisation, and thermodynamics applied to the analysis of energy metabolism of societies.

Currently I am Assistant Professor at the Unit of Economic History, Department of Economics and Economic History of the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona. I also collaborate with the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the same university. My research focuses on societal metabolism, with emphasis on household metabolism, mainly for energy consumption. I have previously worked as an environmental consultant for the Regional Government of Catalonia in a project on energy metabolism. Previously I have worked at the Institute of Social Ecology of the University of Klagenfurt IFF-SOCEC carrying out research on Integrated Assessment of Sustainability, and in Transition Studies; The Italian National Institute for Research on Food and Nutrition, in charge of a project on integrated assessment of large scale GMO introduction; the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona where I have been working as associate lecturer of Natural Resource Economics from 1999 to 2003; the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya as an external consultant; and the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences FLACSO-Ecuador where I have been lecturer in Ecological Economics. I am also founding partner of the consultancy ENT Environment and Management, where I have worked in the environment area and in charge of Administration and Finance, and founding member of the Scientific Society LIPHE4.
