In the eighties and the nineties, a group of female American artists decided to go out to the streets wearing miniskirts, fishnet tights, high heels and gorilla masks to attract everybody’s attention at the situation of women in the world of art. Almost two decades later "Guerrilla Girls" message is still alive. Though women represent approximately 50% of the world population, less than 10% of the movies released in the world are being directed by women … and this is not because of a gap of talent or vocation. MIRADAS MADRID, I INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’ FILM FESTIVAL has born with the vocation of showing the best cinema realized by women every year. MIRADAS MADRID is an event organized by Dirección General de Igualdad de Oportunidades of AYUNTAMIENTO DE MADRID (MADRID COUNCIL) between the 3rd to the 9th of July, coinciding with the celebration in Madrid of the 10th International Congress WOMEN'S WORLDS 2008.
